Must see collection installation
At the Hirshhorn. As part of Gyroscope (the Hirshhorn's periodic rotation of the permanent collection) one of the new "exhibits" is Sculptors and their Drawings.
From a press release:
“Sculptors and their Drawings” provides a glimpse into the creative process of artists past and present-including Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Henri Matisse, Robert Smithson, Julio González and Anish Kapoor-and demonstrates the many ways in which sculptors use drawings: as studies for their work, as a means of liberation from the physicality of sculpture and as a way of developing and exploring their visual vocabularies.I'm not sure if the installation is complete (I don't remember seeing any Smithson or Kapoor) but the Giacometti room is spectacular.
